At The Wallis Annenberg Hall which will officially open on October 1st of 2014, students are able to check out a variety of equipment, located in the basement of the building, room L117. Since the opening of the new $50 million building, the equipment room moved locations from the previous building, Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism (ASC). Jim and Tim, staff supervisors of the equipment room enjoyed both locations as the previous building recollects "nostalgic" feelings, but admire the new Annenberg building as it is "spectacular," and holds "more room for new equipment." The equipment room holds cameras ranging from still cameras, high end cameras, GoPros, and DSLRs. Although most cameras are available to general Annenberg students, some equipment is specialized for designated classes or programs, including photojournalism and ATVN. Video cameras are also available to students as well. However, tripods are now required for every camera that is loaned out. Not only can students check out this type of equipment, but they can also receive loans on lenses including the canon 55-250 mm. If students need other type of equipment, students can gladly inquire about certain equipment to see if they are available. Check-outs are usually 3-4 days long and students should return the equipment before the deadline in order to avoid the cost fee of 10 dollars per day. Equipment that is not provided, as Jim states, includes, "chargers, or SD cards (unless the student is in a program, such as ATVN)." Jim and Tim, who are in charge of the equipment and have been working at the equipment room for about 3-5 years now, suggest that students return equipment as it was issued to avoid any cleaning charges of $5. The student workers, Jim, and Tim, put in effort for the equipment to be nicely kept and would appreciate if students return the "kindness." If students would like to renew some equipment, they may, but must contact either Jim or Tim to receive approval. The equipment room is open on Mon-Thurs, from 8am-6pm and 10am-6pm on Fridays unless otherwise. To contact the equipment room, students can email ascequip@usc.edu.
